Passenger car registrations in EU: +6.9% in April, +8.2% in the first four months

With 1,166,482 units sold – best result for the month of April since 2009 – demand for new passenger cars in the EU reached +6.9% over the same month last year, marking the twentieth consecutive month of growth.

Amongst the main national markets, Italy drove the expansion with a significant +24.2%, totalling 148,807 new cars registered (29 thousand more than in April 2014), followed by Germany (+6.3%), UK (+5.1%), Spain (+3.2%) and France (+2.3%).

In the first four months of 2015, new passenger car registrations reached 4,695,058 units, posting an encouraging +8.2% over the same period last year (nearly 357 thousand cars). All main national markets contributed to the overall positive trend. Spain recorded the best upturn (+23.9%) and Italy followed, showing double digit growth too (+16.2%, more than 80 thousand cars). Good result also for Germany and UK (+6.4%) and France (+5.6%).
