European passenger car market: +2.1% in June, +4.7% in the first six months

With nearly 1.5 million units sold (1,491,003), in June 2017 passenger car registrations in the EU increased by 2.1%, a result which, in volume terms, comes close to June 2007, right before the economic crisis. With an eye to the main national markets, Italy led the growth (+12.9%, with 187,642 cars, over 21 thousand more than in June 2016), followed by Spain (+6.5%) and France (+1.6%), while Germany and UK posted negative numbers (respectively -3.5% and -4.8%).

In the first half of the year, passenger car market in the EU expanded by 4.7%, totaling over 8 million registrations. Except for the UK (-1.3%), all biggest markets kept growing: Italy showed the highest increase (+8.9%, with 1,136,331 units, almost 93 thousand over the same period last year), followed by Spain (+7.1%), Germany (+3.1%) and France (+3.0%).
