European commercial vehicle market: +8.0% in March, +12.1% in the first quarter

In March 2016 commercial vehicle market grew for the 15th consecutive month, reaching +8.0% with 242,049 registrations in the EU. Amongst the main national markets, Italy posted the highest upturn once again with a significant +29.3% (with 16,793 units sold, 3.8 thousand over the same month last year), while all other countries showed much lower numbers: France (+6.4%), UK (+3.2%), Germany (+2.6%). For the first time in months Spain posted a slight decline (-0.6%).

In the last month light commercial vehicles registrations increased by 7.6%, totaling 204,157 units, marking the 31st consecutive month of growth, also thanks to the strong expansion of Italian market (+32.1%). Heavy trucks and trucks saw another positive outcome (respectively +12.2% and +11.1%), supported by Italian, French and Spanish markets, while bus and coach segment posted a slower growth (+2.0%).

In the first quarter of 2016, 563,132 new commercial vehicles were registered, +12.1% over the same period last year. From January to March, all the largest national markets posted growth: Italy (+27.9%, with 44,655 units, nearly 10 thousand more compared to the first quarter of 2015), Spain (+10.6%), France (+10.2%), Germany (+9.2%), UK (+2.2%).
