EU passenger car registrations: +11.2% in August, +8.6% over eight months

In August 2015 demand for new passenger cars reached +11.2%, totaling 744,706 units sold and marking the twenty-fourth consecutive month of growth. This is strong evidence of recovery in the EU market, also considering that August is typically the month with the lowest number of cars registered over the year, together with February.

Amongst the major markets, Spain posted the highest upturn (23.3%), followed by Italy (+10.6%, with 59,203 registrations, nearly 6 thousand more than in August 2014), France (+10.0%), UK (+9.6%) and Germany (+6.2%).

From January to August 2015 more than 9 million new cars were registered (9,056,446), over 700 thousand more compared to the first eight months of 2014, reaching +8.6%. All main national markets performed well, especially Spain (+22.3%) and Italy (+15.0%, nearly 140 thousand units over the same period last year), both posting double digit growth. Good results also in the UK (+6.7%), France (+5.9%) and Germany (+5.6%).
